London Gherkin Cityscape . 7x17in (Copy)

Drawing and painting has been a source of great pleasure and satisfaction to me all my life. I trained as a teacher at Trent Park College in North London, with art as my main subject and taught part-time while continuing to paint, draw and experiment in different media. I now live in Surrey where I taught in local schools as well as teaching watercolour and mixed media to adults.

I enjoy sketching and painting plein-air in a wide range of subjects including people, flowers, landscapes, townscapes and cityscapes (especially looking down from a high viewpoint) but all my work has a strong emphasis on drawing. I use my sketches and my own photographs for my studio work, which I do while listening to the radio. I am initially inspired by interesting shapes and tones but colour has recently played an increasingly important part in my landscape work.

I have been exhibiting my work locally for more than 20 years, then in London with the RI and SWA at the Mall Galleries, the RWS and SGFA at Bankside Gallery, the SBA at Westminster Gallery and also at the Barbican and Menier Gallery with the SGFA.
I am a fully elected member of two professional societies:
SWA The Society of Women Artists
SGFA The Society of Graphic Fine Art (Where I was a Council Member for 10 years)

I have written and illustrated two books,'DRAWING FLOWERS', published in May 2012 by Search Press
and 'DRAWING LANDSCAPES' published in May 2014. "DRAWING FLOWERS" has recently been translated into Spanish.

I hold classes in Cheam, Surrey and demonstrate to art groups & societies as well as talks to social groups.
I also demonstrated for Search Press at PATCHINGS Art Festival and at DERWENT Pencil Museum in Keswick.
Demonstrations, critiques and workshops for 1217 will included: Epsom and Ewell Art Group, Banstead Art Group, Beech Lane Workshop, Walton-on-the-Hill , Croydon Art Society.

I have tutored and led painting holidays in France, Algarve, Yorkshire, Scotland and East Sussex. Next year I will be tutoring, "DYNAMIC CITYSCAPES AND LANDSCAPES" at Higham Hall, Lake District National Park, 1 -5 July 2018
